November Edition
4-B Math
4-B Math has moved into Unit 5. They are currently working on fractions. They are adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing fractions as well as looking at equivalent fractions, decimals and percents.
4-O Math
In Literacy, we continued to study prefixes and suffixes. Also, we have been talking about Elements of Plot. We even made dioramas showing our guided reading book's climactic scene. We practice fluency daily, and it is getting much better. We are really good at it, too. We are now looking at character traits and just read the story "Stealing Home". It was really good.
Science
We are beginning Mystery Powders this week. It is a really exciting, hands on Unit. Most of what we do are lab experiments testing various powders so that we can identify them. There are quite a number of vocabulary words when we discuss the the Scientific Method.
In 4-0 writing we just began working on our Book Reviews. Each student chose a picture book and will write a professional style book review on it. We will be giving these to Ms. Ory to keep in the library to help anyone who needs an idea of a picture book to check out.
Students of the Week...
Her favorite game is "Girl Talk", song is "It's OK," and book is any Nancy Drew book. She likes soccer, dogs and the color peach. Her favorite weather is sunny and 89 degrees -- sorry, Subin, it will be a while before you see that around here! If she could invent one thing, it would be the "machine that can do anything". Would that include homework?
Adam is our other student of the week this month. Adam's favorites include the following things. His favorite game is Wii Sports Resort, book is GooseBumps. His favorite sport is football and TV show is "The Three Stooges". Adam says his favorite weather is 70 degrees with a chance of rain. The rain is a possibility for now, but I think the 70 degrees will be a while off! If Adam could invent something, he said it would be a "Shrinkarator" machine. This sounds interesting!

4-O Math
In math we have been learning about decimals. We have gone all the way to the thousdandths place. We can add them, subtract them, and put them in order from smallest to largest or largest to smallest. Our Unit 4 math test is coming up. It will be on Tuesday, November 23rd.

Social Studies --
We just finished our study of the North Eastern states with a quiz yesterday. Everyone did really well. Remember to keep practicing the states for the end of the year when you have to fill all 50 in on a blank map!
