December Newsletter
4-O Math We just finished Unit 4 and had our test right before break. We will begin Unit 5, which deals with Extended multiplication facts, lattice multiplication, etc, on Thursday.
4-B Math We have been working on fractions this unit. We have discussed finding the whole and the fraction, mixed numbers, ordering fractions, finding equivalent fractions and number stories using fractions.
Social Studies We completed our study of the North East with a post card project. Students created a post card from one or more locations in the North East and included facts and a picture to go with it. We will be working on Science now until Winter Break.
Science We will be finishing up our Mystery Powder unit this Friday (December 4th) with a Mystery Powder Quiz. Hopefully, you saw the Scientific Method vocabulary sheet come home before break. This quiz can be a bit challenging since it has more vocabulary on it that past quizzes. We will be reviewing for it a little each day this week. Students should be reviewing the study guide they bring home today along with the vocabulary sheet I already sent home and the sheet which reviews the reactions of the various powders. We will be moving onto our Earth Dome project next.
Literacy We have begun our research on the planets and will continue this through next week. Once the research is collected and students have written a summary for each planet, they will use the research for their Earth Dome project in science. We are very excited about this.
Writing We are nearly finished with our Book Reviews. The students are excited that Mrs. Ory is putting a copy of them in a binder in the LMC in case anyone wants to read a review of one of these books. We will be moving on and learning about letter writing. First, we will discuss business letters and write a letter to the president. We will then work on personal/friendly letters.
