4-O Math
By now, you should have seen your student’s Math Journal #1 come home along with a note explaining we are finished with the first 6 units of the book, which this journal covers. Because we sometimes do activities outside of the book, and because Math Boxes are partnered with each other so I only assign roughly half of them, there are still pages in Journal #1 that have not been completed. The note that should have been attached explained, while we are finished with the journal at school, it is a good thing to hold onto in case you would like your student to practice math during Spring Break or over the summer.
We are currently working on Unit 7, which deals with fractions and probability.
4-B Math
In 4-B math, the students are working on Unit 8, which also deals with fractions. I think they are all quite relieved to have that “mid-term” test out of the way.
Science
February is our “owl” month. So, students have chosen an owl and are researching that owl with a partner. Together, they will create an owl newsletter in Publisher. We also planted our terrariums on February 4th in preparation for our unit on ecosystems/environments.
Literacy
We have begun our novel study in our literacy classes. The books we are reading all deal with owls. The students are extremely excited to be reading a full length novel in literacy.
Writing
We are working on Extended Response this week as we get ready to begin writing our owl newsletters.
Student of the Week: Jacob Tjards
The next student of the week is Jacob Tjards. I got a chance to talk to Jacob, and he told me some of his favorite things. They are as follows:
Song: "Living on a Prayer"
Book: The Lone Wolf
Sport: basketball
Color: Lime Green
Pet: Hermit crab
Plant: Venus Fly Trap
Weather: Cloudy with a high of 48 degrees and a low of 44 degrees
Invention he would make: a "Light Speed Spaceship"
